You can rest easy, because Microsoft is not going to take over the world. I would, on the other hand, remain anxious about Google or Wal-Mart, either of whom consider world-domination a reasonable objective to achieve before noon this Friday. But what would happen if Google and Wal-Mart decided to collaborate on a project? How about something huge—like Wal-Mart selling really inexpensive Google PCs? Well, the LA Times is floating such a rumor. The PCs would be inexpensive because they would run a new, as yet unrevealed, Google operating system rather than Microsoft Windows. And if you’re wondering why you are reading this hype in Marketing Blurb, take a deep breath, and get ready for the greatest show on earth—The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas, beginning this week. According to the LA Times:
"Larry Page, Google's co-founder and president of products, will give a keynote address Friday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Analysts suspect that Page will use the opportunity either to show off a Google computing device or announce a partnership with a big retailer to sell such a machine."
Now catch your breath. Marketing Blurb will cover marketing hype from CES later in the week. In the meantime, however, remember that low-cost Linux-based PCs already failed at Wal-Mart, and were pulled from the shelves. So, don’t hold your breath. But—consider Google and Wal-Mart capable of just about anything. Place your bets. Film at 11.
