Marketing Blurb is an equal opportunity pundit. We believe in covering all marketing avenues, (even though we secretly despise television, movie theatres, and mobile anything.) We are fond of print, point-of-sale, online, and direct marketing. But sometimes, a voice in the wilderness shakes even our stable sensibilities. So we think it is only fair that you should know that Eric Weaver of Sound Principles Ad-Verse has written a rather testy, but in many respects accurate, bashing of direct marketing called Direct Marketing: A Science of Stupidities. We will not attempt to summarize here, except to say Eric attended a lame meeting of the American Marketing Association and shared his reaction. On the plus side, Weaver includes his own ten step program to bring direct marketers back to reality. Yes, marketing is an interruption—whether direct or otherwise. Weaver claims the reign of fluff is over, but Marketing Blurb is not so sure.
