Marketing Blurb has already explained that women buy more cars (and trucks) than men. So don’t believe automobile manufacturers that car designs must be gender-specific. But if you do decide to convene a focus group of real men, they will tell you that the Toyota RAV4 is a chick car. Men might even say something unkind, like they would not buy a RAV4 because it is “ too cutesy." Well, Toyota wants to have it both ways, so they are keeping the sleek aerodynamic lines that appeal to females, and they are adding a beefier V6 engine and 14 inches of length to make the RAV4 more rugged and muscular.  The Boston Globe is troubled, and asks the question “has the chick car gone androgynous?” Marketing Blurb loves real man cars as much as the next pundit. But the truth is simple—we would just as soon defer to our wife and girlfriend. Neither drives a RAV4—they don’t want to be predictable. Photo Credit: Toyota
