Marketing Blurb loves Hasbro games as much as the next pundit. Hasbro, owner of Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers, is beloved for Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Operation, Rubik’s Cube, Chutes and Ladders and More.![]()
But in an effort to win the product placement heavy weight championship, Hasbro has taken a sucker punch to the chin. Media Post Publication is praising the Hasbro for its product placement of the game Battleship in the dialog for the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother. During episode six, the female lead, Robin, tempts her male counterpart, Barney, with a game of Battleship. Says Barney, "You invited me up to your apartment to play Battleship. Is that not an internationally recognized term for sex?" When Robin responds to the negative, Barney retorts “you sunk my battleship.” According to the Media Post, Hasbro is hoping this retort will enter the vernacular, “perhaps as a good-natured retort for a pick-up line that fails.”
Marketing Blurb reminds Hasbro that this is a game for children, and those same children, without the supervision of their parents, are watching this show. Is this how Hasbro teaches children to play games? Photo Credit: Hasbro
