Marketing Blurb is not especially keen on television advertising. Commercials are expensive, and fragmented audiences aren’t watching anyway. But we are encouraged by numerous alternatives, including online advertising. According to Nielsen
NetRatings AdRelevance, online display advertising increased 12% in January to reach about 138 billion display ads. Financial services companies take the lead with 22% of these impressions. Telecom companies purchase about 19% of inventory, and retailers account for 16 of impressions.
Email service providers like Yahoo, and Hotmail are choice advertising venues, receiving about 35% of the display ad placements. Community sites run 13% of the advertising and search engines claim about 12%. All these numbers do not advertising served on the proprietary pages of AOL. Marketing Blurb urges those not advertising online to get with the program.
