Confession time again for
Marketing Blurb—we do not watch Oprah Winfrey on
television. Nor do we read her magazine, or read other magazine articles about her. And, we certainly do not intend to listen to Oprah on XM Satellite Radio, either. Oprah just announced a deal to join the network with a 39 week 30 minute radio program beginning in September. (See

details, free registration required.) The new show will pit Oprah again Martha Stewart and Howard Stern who already appear on competitive Sirius Satellite Radio. Media pundits applaud the deal which includes a 50-50 split of advertising revenue for Oprah and the network. Yes, advertisers will love this new opportunity to reach Oprah fans. Yes, this will help satellite radio continue to build their audience. But sorry, Oprah,
Marketing Blurb will keep listening to old-fashioned, non-subscription, free, advertising-supported
terrestrial radio.
