KFC Slow Motion Gambit, a commercial
viewers watch slowly frame-by-frame to reveal a secret code for a discount coupon. Well, it seems that ABC decided the technique was a violation of the FCC ruling on subliminal advertising, and as such,
refused to air the ad. “Any fear that flashing a coupon code is going to somehow turn people into animatrons and march over to KFC is completely ridiculous,” said Patrick Vargas, associate professor-advertising at the University of Illinois.
Marketing Blurb agrees, because in general, people who watch television for hours at a time are already animatrons. But seriously folks, we say if television viewers are so idle they watch a commercial in slow motion, give ‘em the damned coupon.
