Now you might think that consumers would not likely confuse The Beatles and their
music with Apple Computer iTunes, but you would be wrong, naturally. The Beatles claimed the Apple brand name in 1968 for their record label, Apple Corps Ltd. As owners of the Apple brand, the fab four were never too keen on Apple Computer using the name, and a nearly identical logo. Apple Corps Ltd. sued Apple Computer, but a judge helped broker a deal in 1991 with a pact that Apple Computer would
not enter the music business to engender brand confusion. Oops. Apple Corps. Ltd. has launched a new lawsuit claiming breech of this 1991 pact.
Marketing Blurb cannot pretend to understand the details of the case, but on the surface, we think Steve Jobs might start looking for another fruit. The Associated Press has more details.
