When
Marketing Blurb attended college a zillion years ago, campus dining halls were
only open an hour for dinner. The student union snack bar closed at 11 pm. If you were hungry anytime after 11 pm, you were screwed. That is, until the Sandwich Man arrived. The sandwich man was an entrepreneur who roamed the dorms offering very thin slices of meat on cheap white bread for too much money. We purchased and ate these every night, naturally, and the sandwich man is now retired in Southern France. But since those days, campus food entrepreneurs are more inventive. Hot Truck, a nocturnal mealmobile that frequents Cornell University features an assortment of fat sandwiches. One called the
Fat Knight combines cheese steak, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, and fries on a single roll. We learned about this delightful night time snack from the April edition of
Saveur magazine, which normally features more cultured fare.
