Max Factor Losing its Glow
Marketing Blurb does not follow the cosmetics industry closely, so we were not paying carmen.jpgattention when Max Factor slipped slowly into the abyss. Advertising Age reminded us that the famous 97 year old Max Factor brand was once the make-up of the stars for everyone from Rita Hayworth to Marilyn Monroe. But now it seems Max Factor is disappearing from store shelves nationwide. Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, and Target all recently dropped the Max Factor product line. That renders Max Factor the house brand for unglamorous Wal-Mart and a few miscellaneous drug and grocery outlets. Procter & Gamble, owner of the brand, says: “We’ve right-sized the brand for our most productive doors.” Carmen Electra, recently named the new brand model, is still smiling. We believe she looks marvelous in this post. Marketing Blurb would shed a tear, but we don’t want to ruin our make-up.
