Marketing Blurb does not frequent Victoria’s Secret stores because our wife and our girlfriend already have a closet full of lingerie. So even though VS is headquartered right in our back yard, we didn’t know they launched Pink, a store within-a-store concept over the summer. Pink offers lingerie, loungewear and sleepwear designed for a younger, dorm-bound crowd. Their clothing is less provocative, and more casual, the kind of stuff mom might even approve for her daughter. Well, it turns out the line has expanded to 998 Victoria’s Secret stores, and contributed $ 500 million in sales in 2005. This is not bad for a kid sister. The CEO of Pink recently resigned, which created local palace intrigue. But it seems parent Limited Brands is preparing to launch the Pink concept as a free-standing retail store. Marketing Blurb believes that retail needs help, but fashion targeting the under 30 year old crowd is already crowded with failures. We gave Victoria’s Secret our advice in a meeting two years ago.
