Marketing Blurb does not believe in regulating the advertising industry. We do believe
that children should be spared from certain kinds of advertising--but this is a role for parents, not regulators. Likely fearing possible government action, the Distilled Spirits Council had decided to toughen self-regulation of print alcohol advertising. The council is telling members to cease ad buys on the inside front cover of five major magazines (including
Time and
Newsweek) until the publishers “can figure out a way to send thousands of school-library editions without those ads.” Advertising Age has

Marketing Blurb says school children are indifferent, because they already know about alcohol from their friends. Maybe teachers could explain what is ridiculous about the inside front cover alcohol advertisement depicted here.
