Get ready for the new
Superman Returns movie this June.
According to
Ad Age (free
registration required,) Time Warner is counting on the super hero to boost its sagging performance in the stock market. Even though he is 73 years old, the man of steel is still a marketing marvel from movies, comics, merchandising and licensing.
Advertising Age estimates that Superman properties have already earned more than $ 1.7 billion. Time Warner hopes the new movie will boost a series of Superman-centric efforts planned across all TW properties. “The property has worked in the widest range of media, from radio to newspaper comic strips to cartoons, TV and film,” said Paul Levitz, president and publisher of DC Comics. “That’s the most powerful indicator of how deeply he’s woven into the popular culture.”
Marketing Blurb, a Time Warner shareholder, hopes Superman can leap tall buildings. The cape certainly helps.
