But according to Samir Husni, a professor at the University of Mississippi who tracks magazines, "The idea that teens don't read is just a huge myth. Teen magazines have witnessed a great increase in reach and numbers over the last few years," he says. MediaPost identifies three new teen magazines launched just this year. Bridgez, targets the Hispanic hip-hop, Smash, targets teen tennis enthusiasts, True Girl, addresses fashion, music, and social matters for teenaged Catholic girls. Marketing Blurb is a cheerleader for print advertising, which engages all readers more intimately than television or radio. Of course, teens absorb all these stimuli simultaneously.
