The Fall of High Fidelity
Marketing Blurb loves music more than the next pundit. We love rock and roll (which ended about 1975 if you are curious) and classical. And like many music fans, we listen from our computer speakers, or use those tiny ear buds. And while we find this stereo.jpgexperience satisfactory, the music lacks passion. If you want to really listen to music, you have to turn off the computer and turn on the old component stereo system. Our 4 foot tall analog Paradigm stereo speakers can blow the doors off weenie MP3 files any day. This is true whether we play AM/FM, CD audio, or even gasp--cassettes and LPs. As we learned from The Wall Street Journal, however, traditional home stereo equipment sales dropped almost 20% last year. And, 34% of those surveyed said they listened to music at home primarily on a PC, compared with just 26% who used a home stereo or surround-sound receiver. Size and convenience often move markets. Don't get us wrong--we would listen to an iPod if we owned one.
