Throwing Out Baby and Bath Water for Fido
Now you might think that selling soup and baby food is a good business—but you dogs.jpgwould be wrong. In fact, Del Monte decided to sell off its private-label soup and baby food business to raise cash for—pet food. Del Monte decided to purchase the pet food line from Kraft, which includes the Milk-Bone brand, for $ 580 million. Oh, and that was after spending $ 705 million for Meow Mix cat-food brands just a few weeks earlier.  Del Monte is bulking up to compete with Nestle’s Purina brand, Iams from P&G, and Whiskas from Mars. Marketing Blurb loves children and pets. Our pets are depending on us to take care of them in their old age—kinda like what we expect from the kids.
