Now you might think that selling soup and baby food is a good business—but you would be wrong. In fact, Del Monte decided to sell off its private-label soup and baby food business to raise cash for—pet food. Del Monte decided to purchase the pet food line from Kraft, which includes the Milk-Bone brand, for $ 580 million. Oh, and that was after spending $ 705 million for Meow Mix cat-food brands just a few weeks earlier.  Del Monte is bulking up to compete with Nestle’s Purina brand, Iams from P&G, and Whiskas from Mars.
