You don’t need Marketing Blurb to tell you that sports marketing is huge. Sponsoring a NASCAR team is an ideal way to help brand products targeted to NASCAR Dads and Moms. And sponsoring kids sporting events is a fine idea as well, assuming you are targeting the kids or their parents. But we are somewhat puzzled why Claritin would sponsor a private clinic hosted by the US Men’s National Soccer Team for a kids’ soccer team. Adults enroll their school team or club in the Kick It Clear With Claritin soccer clinic sweepstakes at Claritin.com. The winning team receives a clinic with the big guys. Presumably everybody get a dose of Claritin to keep their head clear (we made up that part.) But in any case, we do not see the connection or the opportunity between allergy medicine and children’s soccer. If mom and dad are sneezing on the sidelines, find some other technique to get their attention. Must we encourage kids to see brand-name medication? Photo Credit: Schering Corporation.
