Marketing Blurb loves coffee more than the next pundit. And, we are not fussy about the source. Most mornings, we brew our own. Yes, we love Starbucks and go for French roast black, thanks. But we are just as happy with Dunkin’ Donuts, where you can score a dynamite brew as well. But according to The Wall Street Journal (paid subscription required) Dunkin’ Donuts is flirting with going uptown. The chain is smart enough not to disenfranchise their existing customer base, but they are experimenting with a new store design and menu. A prototype of the new store includes rounded granite-style coffee bars where workers prepare expresso drinks face-to-face with customers.  And there is pastry beyond donuts, fresh fruit, and yogurt parfaits. But the chain has decided to nix stuffed chairs and couches. Dunkin’ Donuts is shifting their emphasis to coffee, in hopes of luring traditional breakfast traffic to return all day long. Marketing Blurb thinks this is a promising strategy. When we’re on the road and see a Starbucks, we enter any time of the day or night. And we are happy to do the same for Dunkin’ Donuts.
