Junior’s homework from school is not what it used to be. That old set of encyclopedias is long-since boxed in the basement, or already sold at the garage sale five years ago. And trips to the library are rarely required anymore. Instead, Junior visits Google or
Wikipedia, which by their own admission index about 25% of the world’s published knowledge. But now there is a new option for homework help called
Cosmeo from Discovery education. The subscription-based online service includes 30,000 two- to five-minute videos online, 100,000-plus encyclopedia articles, clip art and tools for math. The content is correlated to state education guidelines. Promotions for the service will run on Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and TLC Discovery television, naturally, and Mom and Dad will also receive direct mail offers. Schools will also host promotion events.
