We already explained that Wrigley’s was struggling to revive the Altoids and Lifesavers brands they acquired last summer. Marketing Blurb even gave the company free advice. But instead, Wrigley’s is running a poker-themed collect-and-win chewing gum promotion. The top prize, available to five lucky winners, is a quarter million dollars. There are trips for two to Vegas, lesser money prizes, and get this—a free pack of gum. Marketing Blurb is not especially keen on contest or sweepstakes marketing. We say sell the damned product, and don’t use gambling as your metaphor.
