Just last month,
Marketing Blurb told you about “all-natural”
lemon-lime beverage 7 Up. We were somewhat skeptical, and now it seems, the Center for Science in the
Public Interest considers the claim misleading as well. We are not chemists, but the Center says “says the drink contains fructose corn syrup, which is artificially made by extracting starch from corn and altering it with enzymes or acids.” But Cadbury counters that sugar from corn starch appears in other foods labeled natural. Of course, you should know that the FDA never has defined “all-natural” or “organic” with regards to food stuffs. In other words, manufacturers or advertisers can claim a product is all-natural without serious challenge.
