If there is one thing
Marketing Blurb deems worse than television, it is
reality television. So we have not paid much attention to the pending
Gold Rush reality show.
But since the show has an online component, we might as well share what we learned from
Ad Age (free registration required.) Here’s the deal. Thirteen armored trucks have hidden $ 2 million in gold in various locations across the country. To find the treasure, you look for clues provided on commercials running on the CBS network, or spot clues on AOL.com. Optimistically, CBS television viewers will not skip past commercials for fear of missing a clue. AOL.com is selling additional sponsorships to interested advertisers, but CBS has exclusive right to the TV medium. We wonder whether they will be a fight over the gold similar to the movie
It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. It would seem more productive to use to just allow contestants to find Jimmy Hoffa for prize money.
