The entertainment industry loses millions of dollars every year to the illegal copying
and distribution of pirated CDs and DVDs. So the MPAA, Motion Picture Association of America, has decided to bite back. According to the IDG News Service, “the movie industry group has funded the eight-month training of two black Labradors, called Lucky and Flo, who can now sniff out optical discs at customs points and other locations. The MPAA worked with its U.K. counterpart, the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT).” The dogs cannot in fact distinguish legitimate copies from illegal copies, but can finger baggage with the discs for inspection. The dogs are working the FedEx facility at Stansted Airport, near London to halt an estimated $ 512 million lost to the industry in the UK last year.
