Marketing Blurb readers are already familiar with VocalPoint, the women’s buzz marketing network established by Procter & Gamble.  The network provides women with product samples, a newsletter and coupons to help buzz new products in their circle of friends. Marketing Blurb believes that buzz marketing is more personal and credible than conventional marketing, even when directly sponsored by an advertiser. But the issue is whether or not buzz agents should disclose their relationship with their sponsor. WOMMA, the Word of Mouth Marketing Association clearly mandates that disclosure is required. P&G lets individual VocalPoint agents decide. But According to Business Week, a consumer advocacy group called Consumer Alert complained about VocalPoint tactics to the FTC forcing an investigation. Women, watch your backs.
