Every now and then, you are certain to read a survey that office workers use the Internet for personal surfing during office hours. This started years ago, before broadband connections were commonplace at home. In a recent such survey by Harris Interactive (reported by Associated Press,) about 25% of employees admitted watching or listening to streaming media at least once a week from work. 18% have downloaded music, photos, and pictures for personal use. At least 61% of those surveyed spent an average of 3.1 hours a week web surfing at the office. But here is a statistic we have not heard reported. Half of those surveyed said they would rather give up their morning coffee than lose their option for personal web surfing at work. We love web surfing more than the next pundit. In fact, our job is web surfing. But don’t mess with our coffee, because there is still a working typewriter in the attic.
