You need to evolve to survive in retailing. And after they have already squeezed all the
cost out of their business, Wal-Mart is still experiencing sluggish same store sales. So they are stocking new, higher-margin merchandise, and trying to lure wealthier women to shop there. And we just learned from
The Pittsburg Tribune-Review, that Wal-Mart is advertising in the May issue of
Vogue magazine. But remain true to their roots, Wal-Mart decided not to use professional models for the advertising shoot. Instead, a real Wal-Mart shopper posed in a favorite outfit with accessories. Of course, it does help that she was first runner up at the Miss USA Pageant. Wal-Mart is seeking to portray stylish but “attainable looks.” We don’t shop Wal-Mart often, but we will look for this shopper new time we do.
