The Kaiser Family Foundation just released a report on children’s media habits, and we are afraid, very afraid. Commenting on the report, Advertising Age says: “Kaiser found that 43% of children under 2 watch TV every day and 18% of children watch videos or DVDs every day. All together, 14% of children under 2 see two or more hours of screen media a day, 22% see one to two hours, and 25% less than an hour a day. The report also said 19% of babies under a year old have a TV in their bedrooms and 29% of children 2 to 3 have one.”  We hate to sound preachy, but children do not need televisions in the bedrooms. If you are the parent of a pre-school child, read to your child. Let you child observe you reading. Tell your kids what we learned from our own Dad, “that watching television will cause your brain to rot and ooze out your ears.” We are stepping down off the soapbox now—thanks for reading.
