Even when times are tough for marketing pundits, Marketing Blurb has no desire to be a family physician. Who needs the headache from patients marching in and inquiring about prescription drugs they’ve seen advertised which promise to solve all their symptoms with only death as generally mild side effect. And doctors seem to agree. Members of the AMA are considering pushing for a government moratorium on pharmaceutical advertising to consumers. This would not eliminate ads for prescription drugs, mind you, but mandate a waiting period between new drug approval and when the drug could be advertised to consumers. A proposed AMA resolution states "[Direct-to-consumer] advertisements for newly approved" prescription drugs should "not be run until physicians have been appropriately educated about the drug."
