chunky 300 model was a monster success with everyone from old ladies to rappers. But higher gas prices have flattened Chrysler sales of trucks and SUVs, and the automaker is now suffering along with the rest of the US manufacturers. Let
Marketing Blurb be the first to explain to you that advertising cannot fix this problem. But that said, Chrysler has decided to retool their advertising by mentioning their “German engineering” offered by parent Daimler Benz (the Mercedes folks.) According to
The Wall Street Journal (paid subscription required,) these new advertisements will not actually mention the name Mercedes, but instead just toot Chrysler’s “German engineering.”
Marketing Blurb would like to remind everyone that both Mercedes and Volkswagen have suffered from serious quality problems of late. German engineering is not what is used to be. Chrysler’s agency needs to go back to the drawing board, and the automaker needs to start thinking like Toyota, not Mercedes.
