Back in March,
Marketing Blurb alerted you that sales of carbonated soft drinks actually
dropped for the first time in twenty years. This is good or bad news, depending on your product portfolio. But according to Morgan Stanley, soda sales will continue to flatten—1.5% this year, and 1.5% every year for the foreseeable future. Advertising Age extrapolated the Morgan Stanley numbers regarding the rapid growth of bottled water, sports drinks, energy drinks and teas, and reports these beverages will eclipse soda sales within the next seven years.
Marketing Blurb has been around the block a few times, and we do not believe in seven year forecasts. We are excited just to figure out what to have for dinner tonight. Trust us. This healthy beverage nonsense will pass, and people will return to corroding their insides with cola.
