The National Retail Federation released their projection for Father’s day shopping this
year. The headline is simple—Dad is ¾ as important as Mom—in spending at least. The average person is expected to spend $ 88.80 on Dad this year, compared to the average $ 122.16 for Mother’s Day gifts. But overall, this will still be a $ 9 billion dollar holiday, an expected increase from $ 8.2 billion last year. About 69% of consumers will give Dad a greeting card. Favorite gift items are projected to be:
• Gift certificates 27%
• Special meals or outings 38.1%
• Clothing 32.0%
• Books or CDs 22.3%
• Electronics or computer-related accessories 15%
• Home improvement or gardening tools 10.9%
• Sporting goods or leisure items 9.1%
• Tools or appliances 11.2%
Marketing Blurb urges you to remember Dad, and to serve him a favorite brew on that special day.
