Marketing Blurb is not a fashion pundit. Occasionally we will dress all in black for some business function, and pretend we are trendy. But we do know that clothing retailer Gap has been struggling for years now to reclaim their former stylish cache. In fact, we have recently heard women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s all tell us the same thing—“Gap doesn’t have anything for women in my age group.” But we learned from The New York Times (free registration required) that Gap is preparing a new fall line and returning to television advertising in July. The new campaign “will offer the first test of its back-to-basics fashion strategy. After straying from its casual roots, and alienating loyal customers along the way, Gap is trying to reclaim the four clothing areas it once dominated: denim, T-shirts, hooded sweaters and basic pants.” The commercials will feature celebrities Jeremy Piven, Mia Farrow, Natasha Bedingfield and the rapper Common.
