While
Marketing Blurb has discussed the issue of childhood obesity, we refrained
from commenting on the movement to remove soft drinks from school vending machines. (People would consider our idea too old fashioned—why do schools need vending machines, period?) But as the sodas exit, beverage makers are planning their next move. According to
Brandweek, the gold rush is on for beverage companies to stock these machines with…branded
bottled water. Nestle, for example, is already packaging bottled water in a new pod shape bottle, and planning to advertise Aquapod Spring Water as a
blast of fun on Nickelodeon this summer. Print ads will run in DC Comics as well.
Marketing Blurb believes bottle water is a better choice than soda, but we expect enterprising kids to run black market soda rings from their lockers.
