Marketing Blurb is not especially keen on product placement, but we accept it as one technique to reinforce brands in a cluttered advertising environment. But why place your product in a sophomoric game show or crime drama, if you can score big with product placement in real life? Jaguar is willing to raise the stakes with “reality product placement,” in which a well-known NY socialite playboy and advertising executive, Nico Bossi, is driving around Manhattan for free in a $ 80,000 Jaguar KX. The premise is simple enough. Bossi is known to frequent all the trendy lounges, restaurants, and dance clubs in town—places like Pastis, Soho House, Milk and Honey, and Double Seven. Bossi flirts with beautiful people. And now, Bossi very publicly zips around in his reality product placement Jaguar XK. Don’t you want to be just like him? Marketing Blurb was trendy once--back in 1988. It was fun for awhile, but we decided to stop playing games and get on with life.
