no way to stop mobile marketing.
Mobile marketing is
not an idea whose
time has come. Rather, mobile marketing is an idea whose
people have come. It has become increasingly difficult to capture the undivided attention of anyone under 25 years old--they are talking on their cell phones incessantly. And yes, their older siblings and parents use cell phones too, but often engage in the heretical practice of turning them off. But no matter what the demographic profile, companies are increasingly turning to mobile marketing. We learned from
Ad Age, for example, that so-called mobile couponing has arrived with the participation of major merchants including
Hollywood Video, 1-800-Flowers, Bath & Body Works, Target and
Best Buy. Consumers can now download a virtual coupon wallet to the phone and show the screen to a store clerk upon checkout. We believe there are already too many people waving cell phones around, but hey—you cannot stop
people whose time has come.
