Oops—Google Print Ads Disappoint
Marketing Blurb has already explained how Google sold print advertising and expects google_logo.jpgto sell television advertising. Some claim these are stepping stones on the path to world domination. (And you used to worry about Microsoft.) But according to MediaPost Publications (free registration required) Google is disappointed with the result of their print advertising trial. “Speaking on a conference call with investors and the media, Jonathan Rosenberg, Google's senior vice president for product management, said the venture to auction off print ads in magazines, which launched in February, has been one of the biggest disappointments in the last six months.” The trial included banner-like print advertisement in 26 magazines including Ellegirl, Motor Trend and PC World. Maybe the old guard is smarter than Google realizes. Although we still think television media buyers should watch their backs.
