Now you might think that consumer giant Procter and Gamble spends a considerable amount of money on advertising, and you would be right. In fact, for the first quarter this
year, their ad spending was about $ 794 million, almost a 14% increase over the first quarter spending in 2005. P&G outspent GM who was forced to cut spending by almost 2% over last year. AT&T, Verizon, and Time Warner round out the top five advertisers for the quarter. Internet advertising is experiencing the fastest overall growth rate at 19%, but television is still king with a healthy 12% increase to $ 6.5 billion for the quarter.
Marketing Blurb is not surprised by these numbers, but wonders whether the telecom folks are receiving adequate bang for their buck.
