Just when you think it is safe to forget mobile marketing, P&G decides to give the
medium a nod with a new campaign for
Crest Whitening Plus Scope Extreme Toothpaste. (Perhaps this is what you need if you spend too much time talking on your cell phone.) The campaign features an
Irresistibility IQ quiz advertised on bar napkins, club bathroom signs, and other alternative-media venues. According to Ad Age (free registration required) “those who opt to take the quiz text the words "IQ" or "Extreme" to the number 27378, or C-R-E-S-T.” Quiz questions cover club and date etiquette, and players can hold the line for the correct answers. (Oh, and don’t take cell phone calls when you’re out on a date, unless you tell your companion you are expecting the call in advance, duh!) There is an associated sweepstakes, naturally, where you can win video iPods and other items.
Marketing Blurb will trust P&G’s instincts regarding the future of mobile marketing—we just don’t have to like it.
