We used to ask our students about how to market the Segway Human Transporter, but
we receive blank stares—what’s a Segway? Well, in case you have forgotten, Segway is a perfectly balanced, two-wheeled, battery-powered scooter. The creator of the Segway once believed this new vehicle would change the entire infrastructure of travel. Cities would be rebuilt to accommodate Segway transportation. Well—this did not materialize, and neither did Segway sales. But we just learned from
Brandweek, that Segway is partnering with GE Consumer Finance Retail Sales, to offer a monthly payment plan for those eager to buy the novel transporter. That is good news. Now the bad news, the Segway Human Transporter sells for $ 5000, about the same as a used car. The Segway is indeed environmentally friendly, and gets about 24 miles per battery charge.
Marketing Blurb doubts the loan will move more product.
