Marketing Blurb is weary of television commercials for prescription drugs. When we
watch the evening news on television, it is painfully obvious the audience for evening news programming is dying. All (let’s repeat--
all) the advertising during the national news attempts to convince boomers that drugs X, Y, and Z will solve their ED, arthritis, GERD, cholesterol, urinary problems, sleep, restless leg syndrome, and so on. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, fainting, heart disease, memory loss, death, rash, heartburn, but are generally mild. If you think this list of side effects is too long—so does AstraZeneca. The drug maker conducted their own consumer study to conclude that mentioning three side effects is optimal for consumer understanding. Mentioning too many side effects results in diminishing returns and the inability of consumers to understand the information presented about the drug. The study is intended to persuade the FDA to loosen legal requirements governing the statement of drug side-effects.
Marketing Blurb is indifferent. Whenever we stop watching television commercial, we suddenly fear much better.
