Okay, so this headline is not entirely true—but here is the deal. Lego, the company that markets those delightful plastic bricks, is shuttering their expensive plants in native Denmark and Switzerland, and moving production to the more cost-effective eastern European facilities of Flextronics, a Singapore-based manufacturer. A US Lego plant in Connecticut will close as well. The move is necessary to keep the toy company profitable in a difficult toy market. While Marketing Blurb regrets the resulting layoffs, the real casualty is the death of imagination. Lego produces themed building sets based on licensed entertainment properties.
