The economy is booming or crashing—depending on who you ask. But if you want the real scoop, pay attention to same store sales at Target Stores. Business Week calls Target the canary of the economy…and guess who just died? Target just released their mid-month update for July, and dropped their sales projection from 4% to 6% growth to 3% to 4% growth. Economists and investors fear this is the dreaded economic slowdown in consumer spending, and two-thirds of our economy depends upon consumer spending. Target believes that the cooling housing market and rising gas prices is reducing the need for store visits this summer.
