Beer sales tumbled last summer, and a Gallup Poll reported that brew was no longer the choice beverage for most Americans who said they drank wine (39%) more than beer (36%). But in new Gallup Poll just released, the results flopped, with Americans claiming a 41% to 33% preference for beer over wine. The beer industry is pleased, naturally. Anheuser-Busch would like to claim the credit as a result of their “Here’s to Beer” image campaign. But keep in mind this is a Gallup Poll, and actual industry sales results do not indicate beer sales are taking market share from wine. While we have respect for the Gallup Organization, Marketing Blurb is always suspicious of the research design for these kinds of popular polls. After all, “yes” is the answer we hear most often to the question “Which beverage do you drink more often, beer or wine?” We heard about this from Advertising Age.
