Dell Computer is famous for their no-inventory, build-to-order, direct-to-consumer
business model. Historically, the company has hyped the typical geek attributes of their products, Intel whatever chips, umpteen GB Hard drive, flat panel monitors, and so on. But falling inline with the HP the “Computer is Personal Again” campaign, Dell has decided to promote user applications rather than megs of RAM. According to
The Wall Street Journal (paid subscription required,) Dell will begin promoting their “computers for fun tasks such as gaming and video-editing.” Celebrities will appear to explain how they use their Dell computers. Optimistically, the new approach help create an
emotional bond between users and their computing activities. Of course, it is also hoped the new campaign will boost lagging sales at Dell.
Marketing Blurb believes most people already have an emotional attachment to their computers, but we cannot repeat the appropriate words to describe these emotions because this blog is family friendly.
