It used to be easy to purchase a computer from the Dell website. There were a few
basic product lines with a few simple configuration options. But the last time we purchased a Dell, the website was cluttered with umpteen different models. Too much selection is a problem. But pricing was even worse! It seemed that every time we refreshed the browser, there was a new special purchase offer. Some offers were straightforward price discounts. Other offers required rebates. Some offers bundled accessories, or included a free printer (worth every penny.) The pricing or special offers were so confusing, and changed so often, we almost decided to buy from another manufacturer. So we are happy to learn from
MercuryNews.com that Dell has decided to simply their pricing. Dell intends to reduce the number of rebate offers. According to MercuryNews: “Beginning next month, Dell said it hopes to reduce the number of promotions per product line by 70 percent and the number of promotions for any single product by 80 percent within the next 18 months.”
Marketing Blurb thinks this is a good idea, and we hope if we visit the Dell site again soon we can figure out what is going on.
