E3 Decides to Scale Back Exhibit Mayhem
Back in May, we told you about E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show. We suggested the gaming industry extravaganza was somewhat out of control. As it turns out, we were right. According to The Wall Street Journal (paid subscription required,) the membership of the Entertainment Software Association voted to scale back the E3_game.jpgevent for future years. At issue was the enormous multi-million dollar cost for exhibitors to engage 60,000 attendees with multi-story, multi-media exhibit booths, each with enough wide screen monitors and speakers to power the U2 Around the Universe Tour. The ESA plans to replace E3 with a smaller event, tentatively dubbed the E3 Media Festival with a target audience of 5,000 in a much smaller convention venue than the LA Convention Center. While we have not attended the last few years, Marketing Blurb will miss the Sony PlayStation martini and cigar bar. On the plus side, maybe exhibitors will opt for smaller speakers.
