Back in April, we told you about the new product line of Snapple White Teas positioned as the “lightest teas on earth.” (We also explained that real men don’t drink tea from a bottle.) And to illustrate just how light these teas are, Snapple decided to offer free rides in hot air balloons over Bryant Park in New York. While the rides were tethered to a limit of 100 feet for safety, The New York Times and others thought it unwise for Snapple to conduct this promotion under the threat of thunderstorms. NY was socked with rainstorms along with the rest of the east coast last week. Of course, the folks at Snapple tried to erect a 17-ton Popsicle in Union Square last year, which melted and required the fire department to wash away. Maybe Snapple should still to print media, rather than event marketing.
