Marketing Blurb often reports on the perils of fast food, junk food, childhood obesity, and so on. Regular readers know we never blame food companies for the sorry state of nutrition in our nation. But food companies are under attack by all kinds of special interest groups who want government to mandate healthy eating. As it turns out, food producers have decided to fight back. We learned from Fortune magazine, that 18 food producers and restaurant trade groups organized a website to counter critic Eric Schlosser’s claims of food-industry abuse in his book titled Chew on This: Everything You Don’t Want to Know About Fast Food. The pro-food industry site is called BestFoodNation.com, which offers factoids praising our “safe, abundant and affordable food system.” We think both parties are entitled to their opinions. Oh, and remember than good nutrition is a choice not a political mandate.
