Frightening Wal-Mart Pharmacy Commercial
We were watching the news last night, and we saw this very scary commercial for Wal-walmart_pills.jpgMart Pharmacies. The commercial was not intended to be scary, but what else could you say about thousands of animated pills and capsules morphing in everyday objects like butterflies, flowers, and a glass of lemonade? We don’t have a copy of the voice over, but the pitch was to convince Mom that Wal-Mart was a convenient place to pick up prescription drugs for the whole family. But all those swirling pills and capsules gave us the definite impression that the family in question was doped to the gills with all kinds of medications. The animated pills looked like candy. Marketing Blurb thinks this imagery was horribly clavier considering that prescription medicine is serious business. We think there has to be a better approach.

What do you want, more pharmacists in white lab coats? The fact that it caught your attention shows that whoever developed it knew what they are doing. Try and name any other piece of pharmacy advertising you can remember seeing recently. There will always be a few who read all sorts of things into commercials, songs, etc. That's just the way it is.

As usual, let's make sure we target the legit "threats" of our nation. Flying pills that form objects and LSD type trips(hmmm, not sure about that). Maybe a different point of view will give you a different perspective. There are many people on maintenance prescriptions that aren't pain killers or viagra and most prescription drug users aren't abusing drugs. Think about the many people on a medication that regulates heart rhythm-YES some of them children with busy working parents. Allergy medication, skin medications, etc.

I really wish citizens of the United States would start thinking for themselves and stop blaming the advertising industry. The power of the media and brainwashing comes from those who fear real thought. There is no actor or even characters popping pills in the commercial and, therefore, I would see no logical reason to assume there is a family somewhere popping pills.

Isn't clavier some type of instrument?

I just saw this walmart commercial and before it was done I was on my computer trying to find it. I can not for the life of me find a copy of it on the net but I did come across a few articles like this one that think it is equally as absurd! I actually wanted to find it so I could put it on my myspace page with comments about the legal drug world and big corporations. And what was the tagline? "Script Your Life"???? Inferring that your children and family should be all drugged up is bad enough... but trying to convey that so they get all their drug needs from Walmart... It makes me laugh but in one of those demented, repulsed, "I can't believe that actually exists" kind of way. If you have a copy of this commercial, please e-mail me! Thanks,

Tracy

I just made a post on my blog about this commercial and ran across this article when I was searching for a link to add to my blog post regarding this commercial!

Yes, Robert... MORE LAB COATS IS FINE WITH ME!! I don't need my kids thinking that pills are an everyday part of life and are ok to consume like freaking candy! My job as a parent is hard enough and I censor enough stuff from my kids... this is over the top. I already teach them that pills and meds are NOT treats and they don't get medicine everytime their little finger hurts. That isn't what I want to teach them. And yes I CAN name OTHER companies that advertise in a MUCH better manner. Walgreens and CVS and OSCO are a few. I respect them more now. So what if I remember this appalling commercial. It will NOT make me use them as a pharmacy and actually turns me OFF from using them. So the genius advertisers did NOTHING except piss me off and cause me to write to WalMart and tell them exactly what I'm putting here!

The commercial is ridiculous and I want it off the air. Appalling is the best word I can find to express my feelings.

First off, the fact that they even advertise drugs on TV is part of the huge problem with pharmacutical costs in this country (U.S.). Secondly to advertise them as some happiness providing everyday element is not only in bad taste but bizarr. At first I thought it was a public service announcement against over-medicating America. All I could do was laugh in disgust when I realized it was quite the opposite. Truely one of the most counter -productive ads I've ever seen. Notice it got pulled after only running for a week or so, and yes, you can't find it anywhere on the web. The fact that it was ever even broadcasted is amazing!
