After Google’s lackluster foray into newspaper and magazine advertising, you might think Google would give the traditional media folks a rest. You would be wrong, naturally. Instead, Google acquired dMarc, an LA-based company that allows advertisers to buy airtime online and then delivers the radio spots automatically. At present, Google is testing the system in Detroit. They hope the online purchase technique will make the medium more accessible to smaller advertisers. While this is a laudable goal, Media Post Publications reports that Google might be able to acquire quality ad inventory from leading radio stations. Before the acquisition by Google, dMarc concentrated on sale of remnant air time. Marketing Blurb believes the Google approach has merit, and we will keep our ears peeled. Of course, if we are listening in Detroit, we prefer Motown to Adtown.
